THE IMPORTANCE OF MOTHERS – MISS C. (INSTANCE)

Miss C. became pregnant when she was 15 years old. She had been very disruptive at school and the staff were concerned about her home situation. Miss C. had an abortion under pressure from her mother. Attempts to get her to take the oral contraceptive pill failed and eventually she became pregnant again. This time she ran away from home determined to have the baby. She herself had been born out of wedlock and did not know her father. She had been cared for by various relatives. Miss C. felt unloved and unwanted. At 14 she had been reunited with her mother but had to face competition with a younger brother on whom the mother doted. It was perhaps not surprising that Miss C. wanted a baby, someone of her own to love and to love her.
